We know it’s often difficult for school board members returning from conference to justify the expense of attending — especially in these economic times. But there is a tremendous value in professional development for school board members and their teams in attending conferences like this one.
The key is being transparent about the trip and clear about what was learned. NSBA has some great resources for school board members to share their experiences back in their districts and with their communities. For instance, you can download this sample op-ed, to edit and send to the local media in your district. Or you can learn from NSBA President Barbara Bolas why she values professional development. There’s also a helpful booklet on sharing your conference experience. You can also watch video testimonials from other school board members who have gained by attending.
And while you’re at the conference, visit the exhibit hall to learn about opportunities for new products that can modernize your district and save it money, check out the more than 26 hours of programming designed to help your district save money during turbulent economic times, and attend one of the sessions on how to share your conference experience with your community.
