Sign him up!

Fresh off polishing his credentials as one of America's leading public school critics, John Stossel, the co-anchor of ABC News' 20/20 program, which included this greatest hit, is a featured speaker at an invitation-only briefing by a South Carolina pro-voucher group next week. Who'd have thunk it, eh? This isn't the first time Stossel has spoken to a pro-voucher group and we're sure it won't be his last.

Still, we got a laugh when we saw the notice from the South Carolina Policy Council and South Carolinians for Responsible Government Foundation inviting people to a "special briefing on school choice with John Stossel."

The latter group, the one "for responsible government", made news of its own last year when it got caught sending bogus letters-to-the-editor in support of a sweeping tuition tax credit plan that the state legislature later rejected. All kinda makes sense doesn't it? A group that manufactured a grassroots movement invites a pseudo-journalist to give a briefing on an important policy issue. Birds of a feather flock together.

We know what you're wondering. Is Stossel being paid by the pro-voucher group? We would have to guess the answer is no. A national network would not want one of its most prominent "journalists" already known for one-sided reports taking money on the side from an advocacy group. That would be unseemly.

No word on whether this gentleman is among the invitees to Stossel's special briefing.
