Civil rights groups and NCLB: Will the Bush administration now step up?

Updates on civil rights groups filing papers with the court in support of NCLB in the Connecticut lawsuit: The Education Department applauds. That is no surprise. Gary Orfield laments. That is no surprise. The question: Will the Bush administration take this opportunity to reach out to all sides here, improve NCLB, ensure it can work, and get its implementation act together?

"Scot X. Esdaile, the president of the Connecticut NAACP, said the filing should not be read as an endorsement of the federal government's handling of the education law, but rather as an attempt to ensure that the voices of poor and minority students are heard in the case," reports Education Week.
