Are you leadership material?

Then you might be one of the nation's 100 District Leaders for Citizenship and Service Learning. The Education Commission of the States' National Center for Learning and Citizenship, NSBA, and the American Association of School Administrators are launching a new national network of 100 district superintendents and school board members who have demonstrated a commitment to high-quality citizenship education.

To be among the 100, leaders will have demonstrated commitment to high quality citizenship education; sharpened the mission of schools to include school-wide opportunities to acquire and enhance the knowledge, dispositions, virtues and skills of responsible citizenship; created school practices and policies where civic knowledge and engagement are integral to the broader academic mission of the school/district; and exhibited the ability and willingness to articulate and advocate for the civic mission of American education.

The selected leaders will be announced in late February and convene at NSBA's Annual Conference in Chicago in April.

Interested? A panel of representatives from ECS, NSBA, and AASA will select the district leaders based upon criteria outlined in the application form. Applications must be received by January 30, 2006.
