The Supremes on military recruiter access to college campuses: Let the guessing begin

A common Washington, D.C., game is guessing how the Supreme Court will vote based only on an assessment of justices' moods, relative orneriness, etc., during oral arguments. One of the BoardBuzz team happened onto the audio of last week's argument before the Supremes in Rumsfeld v. FAIR, and it seemed that a clear majority of the court is opposed to overturning the law that denies federal funding to colleges which deny or otherwise impede access to military recruiters to campuses. Education Week seems to agree. But who knows what the Supremes will do. A decision is likely by July. That article also includes analysis from NSBA Staff Attorney Thomas Hutton on the potential for the decision's impact to K-12. The short answer: Not much.
