Live chat on forgotten middle children

No, this is not the latest family psychoanalytic trend. Rather, these middle children are students not excelling or failing, but falling into the vast majority becoming known as the "forgotten middle." These kids attend school regularly, rarely say anything, don't cause trouble, and get by with mediocre grades. Know anyone like this? Join a live chat hosted by Education Week on Wednesday, November 9, at 2 p.m. ET, and led by Mary Catherine Swanson, founder of Advancement Via Individual Determination. Swanson argues that the nation's focus on the highest- and lowest-performing students has become more glaring in recent years, thereby neglecting the vast majority in the middle. She believes that the No Child Left Behind goals have exacerbated this imbalance by focusing on basic skills and failing schools, not whether students are prepared for college.
