Plenty of education-related issues on Tuesday's ballots

Election day on Tuesday will be an interesting one for those tracking education-related ballot issues nationwide. California will be one closely watched state. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has walked into a hornet's nest by taking on public employee unions, who are energized to fight several of the governor's ballot measures. Teachers unions in that state spent $50 million opposing his ballot proposals, and are looking to spend more. One spending-cap ballot measure would result in severe cuts to schools, says California School Boards Association. Good explanatory editorial here. Good analysis of the governor's larger problems around education here.

Also on local ballots across California: $1 billion in funding for new schools and equipment.
