The whole story about Louisiana schools

It is fashionable to continually rip Louisiana schools, especially those in New Orleans. It turns out though, that Louisiana schools have made big progress in recent years. Kati Haycock, director of the Education Trust, makes the case. Such as: "Over the last decade, Louisiana fourth-graders racked up the third biggest gains in the country on the National Assessment of Educational Progress in mathematics, while the state's eighth-graders ranked second in overall growth on NAEP in math and fourth in growth for African Americans." Yes, Louisiana schools had a long way to go. But they are on their way.
