Georgia asks for voluntary school closures

This just in from CNN. At 4 p.m. this afternoon, Georgia's Governor Sonny Perdue asked that schools and school district offices across that state consider closing on Monday and Tuesday to conserve gasoline. This request for a voluntary closure is in response to the shutdown of the majority of oil refineries in the Gulf region triggered by Hurricane Rita. We assume that an official announcement will be carried on the George Department of Education Web site shortly.
