Tools and strategies to get past the barriers of change

Yesterday, I had an opportunity to listen in on a session talking about the challenges organizations face when creating change in their school. Predictably, some familiar themes about the reaction to organizational change came up: fear, uncertainty, doubt.

What was enlightening about the session though, was the approach demonstrated by Roger Pawley of Strategic Listening Institute: in essence, what if the "political baggage" that comes with organizational change could be eliminated from the process, and focus returned to the overall goal? It was quite a refreshing shift in thinking!

The difference came from the subtle but effective integration of technology into the process. By doing so, the focus was shifted away from the interpersonal "undercurrents" to real data about consensus on the issues. And to back this up, Denise Brodsky, a trustee of the Clark County School District, described how the effort has made a difference in her district.
