A landmark moment
Fifty years after the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Brown v. Board of Education, the nation's oldest continuously published education magazine is examining the history and impact of the landmark decision. In an 88-page April issue, American School Board Journal devotes 50 pages to features, interviews, and reflections on the May 17, 1954 ruling by leading educators, newsmakers, and policy leaders. The issue includes question-and-answer interviews with CBS News legend Walter Cronkite, acclaimed historian John Hope Franklin, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Kluger, among others. Juan Williams, the National Public Radio correspondent and author of an acclaimed biography on Thurgood Marshall, contributed a piece headlined "The Ruling That Changed America." Education Secretary Rod Paige submitted a written reflection, and his predecessor, Richard Riley, was interviewed.
This edition of American School Board Journal will mail to all subscribers during the third week in March. Additional copies will be available at the National School Boards Association's Annual Conference, scheduled for March 27-30 in Orlando, Fla. A limited number of single issues are available for $5.
