Ed restructures, setting sites on better communication

Here is the lowdown on the restructuring planned for the U.S. Department of Education. Interesting line in the Ed Week story, quoting David Dunn, Secretary Margaret Spellings' chief of staff: "In addition, the communications office will end the 'decentralized and fragmented' communications process that Secretary Spellings believes is in place now." It will be a pleasure to see a department of education operating under a clear, direct message, should that actually come to pass. Let's hope so. Communications problems at ED have hurt NCLB implementation. Also, the department never really has figured out a consistent and coherent response to critics. When you get the keys for eight years, you need to learn these things. It appears that somebody over there has. We hope.
