Your feedback on non-partisan elections

More reader comments on the recent post about non-partisan school board races. From Allen Lambert, a former school board member in Ithaca, N.Y.:

"I strongly favor the non-partisan elections we have for school board. That does not mean they are non-political, but they are relatively free of Party organization and ideology with several positive consequences, including low cost ($100-$300 per candidate over past 15 years in a district of 6,000 students), broader representation, interest, and commitment, and little special interest or organizational loyalty. It also permits people to run who are not active members of some Party.
"This judgment comes from 15 years involvement in numerous BoE as well as City Council campaigns, having personally won and lost a couple BoE races, and being an academic social science researcher of BoE operation."
